and patch cords should be purchased in the U.S.
K. Specifications vary depending on the number of users and network layout. Once they have this
information, the IT Department can provide specifications and costs. Network switches will be
purchased in the US.
L. Vysnova server are all in the cloud but if the specific Project or customer requires a local Servers
costs for server hardware and software can vary greatly, depending upon the number of staff and
how the field office plans to utilize the server. Once they have this information, the IT Department
can provide specifications and costs. Servers will be purchased in the U.S.
M. All field offices will have their internal network protected by a firewall. The IT Department will
provide guidance on the appropriate type of firewall and ensure that one is in place given the
Internet connectivity between Headquarters and the field office. Firewalls will be purchased in
the U.S. by the IT Department.
N. Satellite phones are extremely useful in areas where local phone service or cellular service is not
available or is unreliable. Satellite phones are quite expensive, both the equipment and the per-
minute usage fees. The IT Department will advise the PM and Project team on the need to procure
satellite phones for the project. If they are required, they will be purchased in the U.S. by the IT
Department.
O. A VoIP phone system utilizes an Internet connection to place international calls at an extremely
low price. The most up-to-date systems allow use of a regular telephone that is connected
through the LAN so users place calls as they normally would on any landline telephone. The VoIP
system requires a broadband connection such as Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) or a dedicated
bandwidth satellite system to function well. If the IT Department determines a field office should
have VoIP system installed, they will purchase the equipment in the U.S.
P. This equipment (RBGAN) is portable Internet access unit about the size of a laptop computer that
provides Internet access from and to almost anywhere in the world. Like satellite phones, it
requires a clear view of the sky and must be placed outdoors or indoors at a window. The
equipment has a port for connecting an indoor LAN cable to the unit so it can be placed outdoors.
The indoors LAN cable connects to a network switch that provides Internet access for a small LAN
or connects directly to a single computer. RBGANs will be purchased in the U.S. by the IT
Department.
