income and recovering from brain surgery — and
could not afford to hire help after the flood.
Finally, the team helped a man and wife who had
20 inches of floodwater inside their home. Their
house had to be completely gutted due to wet
drywall and insulation. The team removed all drywall,
from the floor to the ceiling, in every room.
“In all of the homes, we removed flood damaged
furniture, appliances, wet carpet , drywall and
insulation,” said Steve. “All damaged items had to
be carried to the street for city pickup or thrown into
dumpsters. This work has to be done so the drying
out process can begin. We also sprayed a sanitizer 11
on the walls, floors and under the houses to kill
mold, mildew and bacteria.
“All of these families were overwhelmed with the
amount of damage this flood left behind. You could
see the hurt in their eyes. This is a lot of work and
much more than they can do on their own. It brings
a lot of relief when people — complete strangers
— volunteer to help those in need. It could be us
that needs help at any time. I thank God that these
people didn’t lose their lives and I count it a blessing
to be able to go help them.”
