My wine tours
The courses were organized in 3 parts: theory, a snack, and
commented tasting of 5 different wines.
18.2 Wine – tastings
The commented tasting took place in groups of 4 or 5 people.
Within a group, each participant could complete what had
already been said by the previous person. At the end of each
tasting, the teacher read out a sheet he had carefully
prepared for the final commentary.
Tastings: meaning
Wine tasting is an event during which we experience,
analyse and appreciate the organoleptic characteristics,
and more specifically the olfactory and gustatory
characteristics, of one or more wines.
In more mundane terms, a tasting is always divided into 3
phases:
1. The look
We look at colour, clarity, whether the wine is crystalline,
brilliant, matte or dull. If it is cloudy, we check for the
presence of suspended substances.
2. The nose
Without swirling the glass, the first nose reveals the
noblest, most subtle aromas. Then, after swirling (swirling
the wine in the glass), the second nose detects the more
pronounced aromas. As the glass is swirled, legs or tears
form on the wall, allowing us to monitor their rate of
descent - a first possible indication of sugar content (the
