HEARTS WITH A MISSION
In 2009, Hearts With A Mission opened its doors to homeless, runaway,
and transitional youth in crisis, creating a safe place for kids. While at
the shelter, kids ages 7-10 have access to warm beds, healthy meals, indi-
vidual case management, educational support (staying in school, includ-
ing the Learning Lab after school with homework help), mentoring and
guidance, learning life skills, crisis intervention, family mediation (and
reunification if possible), transition planning, clothing/hygiene prod-
ucts/school supplies, and more.
They implement the Safe Families for Children in Southern Oregon,
providing host homes and family support while parents get back on
their feet.
Soon, a much-needed gap will be filled—kids 18-22 who’ve aged out
of the shelter or foster care, but aren’t quite ready to be on their own
will have a place. They will live in the current facility and continue to
receive life skills training and the help they need. The younger kids will
move to a newly constructed facility next door. This will ensure more
kids can find healing and direction, and move into adulthood properly
equipped for life.
