accountant rather than an office boy. But now the time had
gone and I had to continue with whatever I had in hand.
Many of my college mates have seen me as an offi ce
boy but they have always seen me with respect. At the
end, this part time college going boy had completed his
education. Chatting with friends, teasing them, smoking
with them has all ended on a good note. (1977-1980)
My handwriting was not good so I completed English
and Marathi typing course with good grades. So I was
promoted as typist and salary was 125/- Rs per month.
At a point, I left my job due to the blind att itude. I
wanted to be an accountant but my owner asked me to leave
in spite of having a degree as BA Economics. I wandered
on the MIDC Shiroli road . Ram Kherade directed me to
Mr. Chandran. And finally, I got a job at MIDC Shiroli. I
was responsible for recovery, making bills, maintaining
attendance register of the workers, approving salaries etc.
I used to ride the bicycle daily for more than 20 kms.
I used to leave my home for office at 7 am. I was also
studying DBM in the Siber Night College at Kolhapur. (My
cousin brother Anna Sutar and a friend Balaso Chavhan
helped me financially during this period.) I used to study
in the library till 12 am. Sunday for college and Monday for
office was an exception. I used to be very hungry during
that time hence used to eat 8 bhakri’s in a day.
I remember, I had placed a toy aeroplane on the front
of my bicycle. The aeroplane used to move as the wind
enters in the fan. I used to envy other vehicles and move
faster.
Once, I got a news that my previous boss was unwell.
And I went back to his office. I showed my gratitude towards
him by working with him without any designation.
In 1980, I went to Mumbai for the first time for his
th
operation. His operation was the 7 heart surgery happened
in India. He was a little worried about himself but he had
faith on god.
