The Bereavement Service

The Bereavement Service is located near the Help Desk at the main
entrance of Hambleden Wing on Bessemer Road. The office is open
between 8.30am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday (excluding Bank
Holidays).

The bereavement team will contact you the next working day after the
death, or you can telephone the office during the above opening times.
The team will explain the process of how to obtain the Medical
Certificate of Cause of Death (MCCD), and guide you through death
registration and how to arrange the funeral.

Please do not come to the hospital until you have spoken to us. The
MCCD can sometimes take several days to complete. This is because
doctors need to follow legal processes to ensure the certificate is an
accurate reflection of why the person has died, and they may need to
speak to other medical staff in the hospital or the coroner’s office
before being able to proceed.

When you come in to see us we will return to you any personal items
that you may not have already taken, and we would be happy to take
you to the viewing room if this is something that you would like to do.
