Celebrating

                                                                         Women’s Month






                                                                             omen’s Month is a tribute to the thousands of
                                                                       Wwomen who marched on the Union Buildings
                                                                       on 9 August 1956 (declared National Women’s Day in
                                                                       1995) to stand for the rights of women in South Africa.
                                                                       Not only does Women’s Day  celebrate the strength
                                                                       and resilience of women and their contribution to our
                                                                       society and country, it is also an important day to call
                                                                       for equality, drawing attention to many of the critical
                                                                       issues that women still face in our country. Therefore,
                                                                       it is fitting that we will celebrate this year’s Women’s
                                                                       Month under  the theme: “Generation Equality:
                                                                       Realising Women’s Rights  for an Equal Future”. The
                                                                       concept of Generation Equality is a global campaign
                                                                       and links South Africa to international efforts to achieve
                                                                       gender equality by 2030.

                                                                       The W&RSETA remains committed to providing skills
                                                                       development programmes, including learnerships,
                                                                       management development and entrepreneurship
                                                                       programmes, to ensure that women  can improve
                                                                       their quality of life and become active members of the
                                                                       economy.

                                                                 he Consumer Goods Council of South Africa (CGCSA) is an
     partnership empowers                                      member companies. This not-for-profit organisation, is the industry
                                                               body through which retailers and manufacturers collaborate on
     SMMEs                                                     non-competitive matters.

                                                               Recognising the challenges SMMEs face with access to retail and
                                                               sustainability matters (such as regulatory and compliance to off-
                                                               take agreements, all of which create entry barriers for emerging
                                                               producers), the CGCSA has developed an  SMME Access to
                                                               Retail - Shelf Readiness Training Programme.
                                                               Through the support from the W&RSETA, the programme has
                                                               assisted 30 SMME emerging producers compromising 20 food
                                                               emerging producers and 10 non-food producers at a cost of R1
                                                               million.
