Celebrating
Women’s Month
omen’s Month is a tribute to the thousands of
Wwomen who marched on the Union Buildings
on 9 August 1956 (declared National Women’s Day in
1995) to stand for the rights of women in South Africa.
Not only does Women’s Day celebrate the strength
and resilience of women and their contribution to our
society and country, it is also an important day to call
for equality, drawing attention to many of the critical
issues that women still face in our country. Therefore,
it is fitting that we will celebrate this year’s Women’s
Month under the theme: “Generation Equality:
Realising Women’s Rights for an Equal Future”. The
concept of Generation Equality is a global campaign
and links South Africa to international efforts to achieve
gender equality by 2030.
The W&RSETA remains committed to providing skills
development programmes, including learnerships,
management development and entrepreneurship
programmes, to ensure that women can improve
their quality of life and become active members of the
economy.
W&RSETA and CGCSA Tindustry association representing Retail and Manufacturing
he Consumer Goods Council of South Africa (CGCSA) is an
partnership empowers member companies. This not-for-profit organisation, is the industry
body through which retailers and manufacturers collaborate on
SMMEs non-competitive matters.
Recognising the challenges SMMEs face with access to retail and
sustainability matters (such as regulatory and compliance to off-
take agreements, all of which create entry barriers for emerging
producers), the CGCSA has developed an SMME Access to
Retail - Shelf Readiness Training Programme.
Through the support from the W&RSETA, the programme has
assisted 30 SMME emerging producers compromising 20 food
emerging producers and 10 non-food producers at a cost of R1
million.
