SUCCESS STORY
An Empowered Beneficiary
Tells Her Story
oweto-born Thobeka Ndabula aspired to work for The Star newspaper, a dream she realised. Starting as a freelance journalist
Sat Next magazine in the late 90s, she worked at The Star from 2000 until 2007. It was during this time that she started Zazi’s
Productions with her first major project on the road to entrepreneurial success to produce a coffee table photo book on former President
Thabo Mbeki’s mother in 2008 - a dream for every photographer. Another proud achievement is her contribution to the Women by
Women: 50 Years of Photography in South Africa photo book.
Passionate about entrepreneurship, she started advocating it in Soweto, which culminated in the formation of the Cultunet Foundation –
an entrepreneurship network that focuses on promoting agriculture at schools in Gauteng in partnership with municipalities. With a desire
to make an even more personal contribution to the foundation, Thobeka started a ready-to-drink juice manufacturing business in March
2020. Her current ambition is to move into the more profitable, although largely male-dominated, concentrate juice manufacturing
space - a glass ceiling she wants to break.
