Breaking the Curse of Poverty  David K. Owusu

               Giving of Alms

Alms, known as charity, are given to the needy, the poor, or the
               afflicted.

In Proverbs 19:17 (GnT), the Bible says,

When you give to the poor, it is like lending to the Lord, and the Lord
will pay you back. When you give to the poor, then you are laying up
insurance with God. The Bible says, “Give to seven -that’s your duty-
and to eight,”- which means go a little beyond duty -“because you do
not know what disaster might come upon the earth.

When you give to the poor it is like loaning to the Lord and He
will surely repay you for everything you give to the less privileged.
The bible says that when we give to the poor it is like loaning the
Lord and God shall surely repay you for every gift you give to the
needy. The Lord requires us to go a little beyond when it comes to
giving as stated in Ecclesiastes 11:1-2 (GNT)

Cast your bread upon the waters, For you will find it after many
days.2 Give a serving to seven, and also to eight, For you do not
know what evil will be on the earth.

In other words, if you do what God says with your money, God will
take care of you when the disaster comes. That is God’s guarantee
and your assurance. Giving is an insurance against bad times.

Isaiah 58:7-9 New Living Translation (NLT)

7 Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless.
Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives
