Breaking the Curse of Poverty  David K. Owusu

The giving of first fruit is a biblical principle that stands out with
great blessing, yet the church has not been taught much on this
subject. The little information on it has been contorted. This is a
special offering that is given in accordance to one’s increase. The
first of anything, it could be of money as this is what we have in
terms of wealth, harvest or any such other form of resource that can
               be quantified.

The reason as to why we give this type of offering is basically because
through it we show faith in God, as He has given in the first place.
By doing so, we set ourselves up for a blessing as Proverbs 3:9-10,
               states.

“Honour the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your
crops; then your bans will be filled to the overflowing, and your vats will
brim over with new wine” Proverbs 3:9-10 (nIV )

9 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 10 “Speak to the children
of Israel, and say to them: When you come into the land which I
give to you, and reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of
the first fruits of your harvest to the priest. 11 He shall wave the
sheaf before the Lord, to be accepted on your behalf; on the day
after the Sabbath the priest shall wave it. 12 And you shall offer
on that day, when you wave the sheaf, a male lamb of the first
year, without blemish, as a burnt offering to the Lord. 13 Its grain
offering shall be two-tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with

oil, an offering made by fire to the Lord, for a sweet aroma; and its
drink offering shall be of wine, one-fourth of a him. 14 You shall
eat neither bread nor parched grain nor fresh grain until the same
day that you have brought an offering to your God; it shall be a
