                                                              the Cultural Heritage Protection and Research Centre
                                                              of the Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of
                                                              Social Sciences, and examined several jade artefacts. The
                                                              few pieces that were originally thought to be made of
                                                              nephrite proved to be tremolite upon testing, and there
                                                              was no definitive proof these carvings to be of nephrite
                                                              from Xinjiang. The author believed that the source of  jade
                                                              material during this period is even more complicated than
