of circular form, skilfully rendered in openwork around the
central aperture depicting a pair of deer grazing amongst
elaborate foliage including pine trees and flowering branches,
standing on jagged rockwork, the stone of an even pale
celadon tone

A PALE CELADON JADE
‘LANDSCAPE’ BOX AND COVER
QING DYNASTY, 18TH/19TH
CENTURY
of rectangular form with indented corners, supported on a
reticulated foot, the cover carved in low-relief depicting a
scholar and his attendant crossing a bridge in a mountainous
landscape amidst scrolling clouds, the sides and box decorated
with panels of archaistic motifs, with a poetic inscription to one
side, all against a brocade ground, the smoothly polished stone
of very pale celadon tone
