AN AGATE EWER AND GOLD COVER The cover of the present ewer has been rendered in the style
MING DYNASTY of gemstone-embellished gold finials of the early 15th century;
see several excavated from the mausoleum of Prince Liang
Zhuangwang (1411-1441) in Changtan, Zhongxiang, Hubei
the baluster body rising from a short spreading foot to a province, illustrated in Liangzhuang Wanmu (Xia) / Mausoleum
waisted neck and galleried rim, carved with a loop handle of Prince Liang Zhuangwang (II), Beijing, 2007, pls 151-6.
opposite an upright spout, decorated with a band of ruyi
border at the shoulders, with further stylised scrolls at the £ 20,000-30,000
bottom of the handle and spout, the domed cover embellished HK$ 203,000-304,000 US$ 25,900-38,800
with ruyi decorated gold, the stone of a semi-translucent
greyish brown tone 明 瑪瑙嵌金如意紋執壺
