            The bare-chested god stands on his large bag, the
            ends placed over Hotei’s shoulders and held in
            place with both his hands. The ivory of triangular
            cross-section.

        271  An ivory manjû of Hotei with two karako.
            18th/19th century
            Carved in openwork relief with Hotei seated with
            his arm resting on his bag and two playful karako,
            surrounded by bamboo and flowering branches, on
            the reverse two karako in a bamboo grove.
