A rare reticulated and enamelled silver filigree ruyi sceptre
19th century, two-character Changzhen and Wenliang marks
The ruyi formed with great delicacy with a shaft of filigree silver on the top
supporting the Eight Immortals in enamelled silver, each holding their own
attribute amongst various flowering plants including prunus, finger citron
and plantain, the neck with four plaques each with a character yi, pin, dang
and chao, the ruyi head similarly decorated with enamelled silver figures of
Shoulao holding a peach and two scholars, one with a ruyi sceptre and the
other holding a child in his arms, the reticulated sides of the sceptre with
cartouches of flat emamel foliate scrolls alternating with cartouches of applied
flowers on a filigree ground, the underside of the sceptre with a stencilled
design of three shou characters amid bats and floral groups.
