434 | Bonhams An inlaid lacquer six-leaf ‘children’ screen
Late Qing Dynasty
The six panels decorated with inlaid mother-of-pearl and coloured stone
on a black lacquer ground with a scene of boys at play in a pagoda and
on a surrounding terrace, the boys variously mock fighting, pulling a toy
boat, reading, practising calligraphy, playing chess and punting a raft
on a pond with geese and lotus, the top and side borders with precious
objects and the bottom border with four qilin and a Buddhist lion in
each corner, the reverse painted with floral sprays.
Each panel 172cm x 38.5cm (67¾in x 15¼in) (6).

An unusual gilt and lacquered ivory-mounted wood scroll stand
Qing Dynasty
Elegantly formed as an unfurling scroll wound tightly around two ivory
handles and unscrolling towards the other end loosely curling, the upper
surface streaked with rich reddish-brown to imitate grained wood, the
underside lacquered black and the edges gilded.
