CELADON-GLAZED BRUSHPOT
QING DYNASTY, KANGXI PERIOD
of cylindrical form, the exterior painted with a continuous
landscape depicting a thatched-roof pavilion lakeside among
leafing trees, a fishing boat off-shore plying the calm water,
a cluster of rustic huts alongside a rocky outcropping,
and further trees among rolling hills in the distance, the
countersunk base with an apocryphal Chenghua mark

QING DYNASTY, KANGXI PERIOD
the rounded slightly tapering sides vibrantly painted in rich
tones of cobalt blue with a continuous scene depicting two
scholars standing on a narrow rocky path conversing with
one pointing to an elegant pavilion nestled among trees and
rockeries in the distance, in the foreground a fisherman
guiding a boat to the opposite shore towards two further
scholars sitting comfortably with a young attendant carrying
a qin close by beneath a tall, dense grove of pine trees,
a flock of birds flying overhead amid gentle clouds, the
waisted neck with a leiwen band below circlets and ruyi-head
borders, the base with a double circle
height 17 in., 42/3 cm
