320 Daoist Immortals
320 | Bonhams Late Qing Dynasty
The figures elegantly carved with long sweeping
robes and variously holding their attributes
including a fan, a flute, a pair of castanets, a lotus
and ruyi sceptre, a plaque, a basket of flowers,
a sword and a double gourd issuing the wisp of
immortality.
The tallest 15.3cm (6in) high (8).

An ivory carving of figures in a boat
18th/19th century
Carved with a scholar wearing a peaked cap and
reclining with his arm resting on the right knee
and a fly-whisk draped over his left knee, enjoying
a joke with a smiling boy kneeling in front on his
left leg with right knee raised, the figures on a raft
carved from a thick tree trunk and issuing smaller
branches laden with two heavy peaches, leaves
and prunus blossom, the raft sailing on foaming
waves.

A carved ivory box and cover
19th century
Intricately carved on the cover with a lobed
cartouche containing a scene of a general raising
his right arm to smite a trumpeting elephant
observed by mounted attendants and armed foot,
all surrounded by shallow carving of deities and
demons crossing waves, the interior of the cover
with a dignitary surrounded by a flock of attendants
greeting a lone scholar on a terrace, the box
deeply carved on the interior with a scholar paying
obeisance to a dignitary seated at a draped table
within a temporary silk pavilion and surrounded by
soldiers within an army camp of tents and flying
pennants.
