Qianlong seal mark and of the period
Of hollow cylindrical form, the sides painted with a pair of dragons
and five bats amid dense scrolling clouds, the flat top painted in iron-
red with the six-character mark, the replacement wood cap carved in
low-relief with bats amid clouds, box.

Acquired from a Private Collection
Two almost identical examples from the Wang Xing Lou Collection
are illustrated in Imperial Perfection, The Palace Porcelain of Three
Chinese Emperors, Hong Kong, 2004, pp. 94 & 95. Another two
brushes of similar decoration but with the dragons executed in
puce enamel instead of iron-red were sold at Christie’s, London, 3
November 2009, lot 287.
