A PAIR OF ENAMELED PORCELAIN ‘GEESE’ CUPS
Republic period
Each with a curving well rising to a vertical wall, covered overall with
glaze of slightly greenish hue, the exterior painted with a continuous
scene of geese on a riverbank among chrysanthemums and reeds,
beneath the gilded rim, supported on a flat unglazed foot ring, the
recessed foot with a seal mark in iron-red reading Xiezhu zhuren zao.

A MINIATURE ENAMELED PORCELAIN VASE
Qianlong mark
The garlic bulb mouth is encircled by overlapping plantain leaves and
the pear-shaped body painted in bright enamels with a seated beauty
watching two children pluck a branch from an autumn-flowering
tree reversed by a garden rock below an inscription bearing the
puce-colored painted seals of Lang Shining (Giuseppe Castiglione,
1688-1768), the recessed base bearing the four-character mark in
overglaze blue enamel.

The vase bears a similarly composed painting to a piece in the
collection of Simon Kwan, published and illustrated in his book
8115 Chinese Porcelain of the Republic Period (Hong Kong, 2000), cat.
no. 135, pp. 320-1, and compares favorably to one sold in our San
Francisco salesrooms 11 December 2012, lot 8150A.
