Guangxu mark and of the period
Of circular shape with straight walls, the sides set with opposing
pairs of lion-mask loops for the insertion of metal handles, the domed
cover edged with a key-fret band and surmounted by a molded
lingzhi sprig finial, the remaining surfaces painted with a dense
pattern of bats amid auspicious clouds, the recessed foot marked in
iron-red with the six-character mark.

Of flattened meiping form, the faceted sides painted with an overall
design of swarming bats, the recessed foot with a four-character
Qianlong mark, all against a gilded ground.

AN IRON-RED REVERSE-DECORATED ‘PRUNUS’ BOWL
Republic period
Potted with steep rounded sides rising from a short foot ring, the
exterior painted with blossoming prunus branches reserved against
an iron-red ground, the white base centered with iron-red seal mark
reading Hongli Shanfang (Red Lychee Mountain Lodge).

民國 礬紅地梅花紋盌 《紅荔山房》款
Hongli Shanfang was one of the buildings built in 1930 for Jiang
Guangnai (1888-1967), a Guangdong native who was a general and
statesman in the Republic of China and the People’s Republic of
China. It is located in a compound called Liyin Yuan (Lychee Shade
Garden) in Guangdong province.
