A LARGE PAIR OF GILT AND POLYCHROME BLACK-
LACQUERED WOOD CONSOLE TABLES
Lavishly decorated in polychrome and gilt designs on the top with
a shou character between two lotus medallions surrounded by four
sinuous dragons and four butterflies hovering amidst a profusion
of blossoming lotus, peonies and other flowerheads issuing from
curving tendrils and acanthus leaves, all within a border of scrolling
lotus and diaper cartouches, the waist decorated with rectangular
panels depicting further dragons, the legs and base frame with
further scrolling lotus designs. 80cm (31 1/2in) high x 130cm (51
1/8in) wide x 65cm (25 1/2in) deep (2).

writhing dragons, the present tables appear to have been inspired by
Imperial lacquer furniture of the 18th century.
