                        (Figure 3-4). The three dimensions of a piece of porcelain bowl made the design even

                        more vivid and realistic. The transmission of technological expertise was created both


                        in realism and decoration.

                        24   Giuseppe Castiglione's bird-and-flower painting is marked by its difference from traditional
                        Chinese methods. Forms often consist of shapes gradually built up with very few of the outlines
                        normally seen in Chinese painting. The year 2015 marks the tricentennial of Giuseppe
                        Castiglione's arrival in China and the ninetieth anniversary of the National Palace Museum. It
                        has held an exhibition Portrayals form a Brush Divine: A special Exhibition on the tricentennial
                        of Giuseppe Castiglione’s arrival in China. See:
