                The following Japanese Nengo are those which occur          in
           the  list  of marks upon    pot   'y.  It  would,   of  course,  be
           possible to  increase the number by adding those found upon
           other  art works,   but  it  is  not  advisable  to  introduce  any
           marks   into  this  chapter,  except  those  taken  from Keramic
           wares.    A  list  of year periods  is  given  at  the end   of the
           Volume,

                Genki nen    sr«, meaning. Made      in  the period  of Genki,
           1570-1573   A-D.










                                          Hizen.
                Bunkwa,    Shin-bi   no  toshi, Kuwa-na Ko        no  mei   ni
           oziTE KORE o    sEisu, meaning.    This  is made   by command    of
           the Prince  of Knwana,    in  the period  of Bunkwa,    the Zodiac
           year  of  the  Sheep,  1804-1818  a.d.  The upper   characters on











                            ^atsuma .                    Hizen .
                Both the inscriptions given    above read Tempo, nen      sei,
           meaning, Made    in  the period of Tempo,    1830-1844   a.d.
