                                                     Kioto,
                          Kayei,  shii, sho-shiu, meaning, The     seventh month of the
                    fourth year   of  the period  of Kayei.   This  period commenced
                     in 1848 and ended in 1854 a.d.        therefore the example from
                                                         ;
                     which   the mark   is  copied  was made      in  1851.    The two
                     upper characters on     the  right  are  Ka-yei.
















                                                     Kioto.
                          Meiji, rokusai, meaning,     The sixth year   of  the period of
                     Meiji.  This period commenced       in  1868, and  still  continues.
                     The example from which        the mark    is  copied was made    in
                     1873.   The two upper      characters  are  Mei-ji.

                                                     Tokio.

                          Meiji, kunen, kugatsu, meaning. The ninth month of the
                     ninth year  of  the period of Meiji.   The specimen from which
                     this mark    is  copied was made      in  1876.   The two    upper
                     characters   are  Mei-ji.
