A LARGE GILT-LACQUERED WOOD FIGURE OF LONGNU
17th/18th century
Carved with hands hidden by a presentation cloth, supporting a now-
missing flaming pearl on an offering dish, wearing a ruyi-cloud collar
with beaded-edge beneath a shawl, the borders of the long sleeves
and three-quarter-length overskirt finely decorated with floral scrolls,
the head slightly turned to the right, the face with delicate features
beneath the hair, pulled back into double loops at the back.
33in (83.8cm) high
US$12,000 - 15,000
十七/十八世紀 漆金木雕龍女立像
Longnu is the daughter of the Dragon King, and would have stood
to the left of an image of Guanyin. The present figure with its head
turned slightly to the right would have been facing worshipers as the
figure would have been angled slightly to the right on the altar, with a
matching figure of Shancai on the right, angled slightly left towards the
central image of Guanyin.
