The Praya Grande was the chief waterfront promenade in Macau when
the Portuguese held the peninsula. It was the site of storehouses,
consulates, and government offices. The present view shows the small
San Pedro Fort with a flagpole in the center of the beach. To the left is
Penha Hill and its church, to the right is the Palacio and the East India
Company House. This is the only known port view we have by Shang
Tai, an otherwise unrecorded artist.
