A WHITE JADE ‘ELEPHANT AND ATTENDANTS’ GROUP
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
The stone is delicately carved as an elephant standing four-square with
its head turned to one side, gazing at a foreigner holding a cup. The other
attendant is holding a jar and sitting on a fnely carved saddle-cloth draped
over the back of the elephant with ruyi-shaped clouds above rocks emerging
from crashing waves. A third attendant is standing behind the elephant
holding a hooked spear. The stone is of a white tone with some snow fakes.
