A DOUCAI ‘MELONS’ STEM DISH
DAOGUANG SIX-CHARACTER SEAL MARK IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE
AND OF THE PERIOD (1821-1850)
The dish is decorated to the exterior with melons growing from leafy vines,
separated by the characters ji xiang ru yi, above a band of ruyi heads and
waves to the base of the tall foot. The interior is decorated with three bats
surrounding a stylised shou roundel, encircled by a ruyi head border.
