A RARE FAMILLE ROSE OCTAGONAL JARDINIÈRE
18TH CENTURY
Each broad side of the vessel is decorated with a diferent scene variously
depicting a cowherd, a hare observing the moon, a pair of deer under pine
trees; and a horse tied to a tree. The narrow panels are each decorated with
scrolling fowers. The fat everted rim is decorated with panels shaped as the
sanduo and a leaf, each enclosing scholar’s objects, all reserved on a diaper
ground. The vessel is ftted with a white metal liner.
