                                                                               A DEHUA MODEL OF A SCHOLAR
                                                                               17TH CENTURY

                                                                               The fgure, possibly Wen Chang, is shown standing on a rockwork base. He
                                                                               holds a ruyi sceptre in his right hand while his left hand is concealed beneath
                                                                               his long robe that is tied at the waist. He wears a fat cap with ribbons falling
                                                                               over both his shoulders and his face is pierced for the addition of natural
                                                                               strands of hair. The glaze is of a warm, white tone.

AN IRON-RED AND YELLOW-ENAMELLED BRUSH HANDLE
WANLI SIX-CHARACTER MARK IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE AND
POSSIBLY OF THE PERIOD

The handle is densely decorated to the exterior with two turtles above a band
of waves, all below a band of swastika and foral scrolls.
