A LARGE ARCHAISTIC FAUX-BRONZE BROWN-GLAZED VASE,
ZUN
19TH-20TH CENTURY
The vessel is moulded to the exterior with bands of kui-dragon scrolls, lappets,
key-fret borders and archaistic motifs, with a pair of monster-mask handles
with rings to the sides. It is covered in a dark brown glaze with turquoise
splashes in imitation of archaic bronze, with details highlighted in gilt. An
apocryphal Qianlong seal mark is on the base.

A PAIR OF FAMILLE ROSE RED-GROUND
‘DOUBLE GOURD’ VASES
19TH CENTURY
Each vase is decorated with two gourd-form handles
and double gourd-form cartouches, one enclosing
a scene of two boys attending a lesson, below the
inscription jiao zi cheng ming, ‘leading sons to success
through education’, and the other depicting a bearded
man and three boys at play in a garden, below the
inscription zi zun wan dai, ‘ten thousand generations of
sons and grandsons’. The cartouches are surrounded
by a dense network of gourds and leafy vines, set
against a ruby-red ground. There is an apocryphal
Yongzheng seal mark to the base.
