A GILT-LACQUERED BRONZE FIGURE OF A GUARDIAN KING
MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)
The fgure represents Vaisravana, the Guardian King of the North, holding
a stupa in his raised left hand. He wears elaborate armour with a celestial
scarf billowing above his shoulder and trailing down his sides. His face wears
a wrathful expression below the openworked crown and topknot. There are
traces of lacquer.

Private European Collection acquired in the 1970s and 1980s.
The stupa represents the body of the Buddha, both his spiritual body and his
person, as well as his Law.

A PAIR OF FAMILLE ROSE PAINTED ENAMEL SQUARE DISHES
18TH CENTURY
The interior of each dish is delicately enamelled with an elegant lady seated
on a garden stool by a table, with two young boys standing beside her. The
underside is decorated with a shou-character roundel surrounded by fve bats,
enclosed within a foral border with the Eight Buddhist Emblems, bajixiang.
