A PALE CELADON JADE ARCHAISTIC VASE,
FANGGU
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
The square-form vase is carved in imitation of the archaic bronze
gu shape. The bulging mid-section is elaborately decorated with
taotie masks. The flaring neck and spreading base are similarly
carved with plantain leaves enclosing further taotie masks and
leiwen scrolls. The semi-translucent stone has some opaque
mottling.
