A WHITE JADE ‘TAOTIE’ BOWL AND COVER, LIAN

QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY

The rounded sides of the bowl is carved in relief with four taotie
masks, rising to a wide everted rim further adorned with eight
taotie masks. The domed cover is surmounted by trumpet-shaped
finial with four loop handles with loose rings. The stone has a pale
celadon tinge with sporadic russet veining and milky mottling.
3 ‰ in. (9.7 cm.) diam.
