A YELLOW JADE CARVING OF A MYTHICAL
BEAST
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
The recumbent beast is shown with its head turned back, its face
detailed with rounded eyes, a broad snout and curled eyebrows. Its
tail is carefully combed, its spine highlighted by ridges. The stone
is of a greenish-yellow tone with a concentrated area of russet
inclusion.
