▪ Sick days ▪ Paid Time Off
▪ Jury duty ▪ Bereavement leave
▪ Military leave ▪ Other leaves of absence
In the matter of Personal Time Off, each Manager or Supervisor must use his/her own
judgment on whether or not an Absence Reporting Form is necessary depending on
the individual situation. If there is a question about the appropriateness discuss the
situation with the Human Resources Department before making a final determination.
Salaried and Non-exempt employees also may be required to record their time on
duty. The employee’s Manager or Supervisor must sign Absence Reporting Forms.
The Payroll Administrator will accept the Department Manager or Supervisor’s
signature as approval of time indicated on the Absence Reporting Form. The Payroll
Department is not responsible for following up with salaried (Exempt) status
employees for Absence Reporting Forms; this is the responsibility of the Manager or
Supervisor. Absence Reporting Forms should be submitted to the Payroll Department
before payroll is processed for the week or bi-weekly.
LEAVES OF ABSENCE
Leaves of absence are temporary absences from work without loss of employment
status.
Under the following circumstances, you may be granted a leave of absence if approved
by your Manager or Department Head and the Human Resources Department.
Jones-Hamilton Co. recognizes the following types of leaves of absence:
Sick Leave Jury Duty/Witness Leave
Family and Medical Leave Act Leave Bereavement Leave
Personal Leave Military Leave
SICK LEAVE
Employees accrue paid sick leave that may be used when absence from work is
necessary due to illness. Sick leave also may be used in limited instances when
absence from work is due to illness in the employee's immediate family. Time off for
medical and dental appointments will be treated as sick leave.
Requesting and Approving Sick Time
An employee who is unable to report to work due to personal illness or injury must
contact his/her supervisor in accordance with company rules. If an employee becomes
sick during the day, the supervisor must be notified before the employee leaves the
work site. Failure to follow these procedures will result in treatment of the day as an
unexcused absence and may result in disciplinary action as well.
Exempt (salaried) employees can schedule for a partial day of sick leave (4 hours), for
payroll purposes. Sick time may be tracked as the time is used. Non-exempt
employees are paid for available sick time as it is taken (1 hour, 2 hours, 8 hours etc.)
