Eligibility and Use
Sick leave is leave provided as an employment benefit for the employee’s use during
an absence from work for any of the following reasons:
▪ When the employee is ill or injured
▪ When the employee is absent to care for an ill or injured family member,
to the extent described in the Family and Medical Leave below.
Jones-Hamilton Co. offers paid sick leave to regular full-time employees who have
completed their 90-day trial introductory period. An employee who has completed
his/her trial period of 90 days will be eligible for paid sick leave during each calendar
year. Temporary employees are not eligible for sick leave benefits.
Part-time employees’ paid sick leave is prorated based on that employee’s standard
workweek, as follows:
• 39 to 31 hours per week are eligible for 75% of the paid sick leave available to
full time employees.
• 30 to 20 hours per week are eligible for 50% of the paid sick leave available to
full time employees.
• Temporary employees and part time employees who work less than 20 hours
per week are not eligible for paid sick leave.
On January 1st of each year, eligible employees who are full time will be granted 40
hours of sick leave. Sick leave will be prorated when an employee starts after January
1 and can be used after the completion of the 90 day trial period. Accrued sick leave
st
does carry-over from year to year, to a maximum of 200 hours.
Certification by your health care provider is required for absences of three or more
consecutive workdays. Jones-Hamilton Co. may withhold sick pay if it suspects that
sick leave has been misused. Sick leave is available only in the case of actual illness
or injury of an employee, or the employee’s family member. A health care provider's
certification may be required prior to reinstatement after one of those absences. A
health care provider's certification may also be required in other circumstances.
Any unused Sick leave will be forfeited upon termination of employment, regardless of
whether voluntary or involuntary.
