                      The library profession is at a crossroad. They are in dilemma as to whether to uphold

                      traditional values or emphasize on customer service in the provision of library services.

                      User  demands  have  dictated  a  shift  in  conventional  strategies  that  are  passive  and
                      reactive, to those that are proactive. Has the library profession equipped itself with the

                      requisite skills in order to be able to make the necessary paradigm shifts? Does the image
                      of librarians need to be enhanced? Does the image building begin with a public relations

                      approach? The answers need to be formed through the analysis of the issues and the role

                      librarians should play in the provision of library services.
