1. Doctor Mr. Smith, now I’d like to schedule you for an endoscopy.
Just to make sure. Just to be able to reassure you that
everything really is fine. I think you should perform a
colonoscopy as well.

2. Patient What are those?

3. Doctor Well, for both we insert a tiny TV camera attached to a
flexible tube into your digestive tract. For the endoscopy, we
insert the tube through your mouth and on into your stomach
to have a good look around. For the colonoscopy, we insert it
into your colon or bowel. You won’t need to use anesthesia
for either, though they might give you a tranquilizer to relax
you. Nothing major. Just a slight discomfort, that’s all.

4. Patient Is it painful?

5. Doctor I give you my word it won’t hurt. You will be fine. Honestly,
it’s routine. The treatment is perfectly straightforward.
