Make the Most of Your Annual Physical Exam
An annual physical exam can help you detect health concerns
early, when they are easier and less costly to treat. That’s why
completing an annual physical exam will earn you company MYHEALTH HSA PLAN
funding into your MyHealth HSA account in 2017.
Before Your Appointment
1. Need help finding a physician? Contact our Compass
MyHealth Pros at 1-877-546-4146 or efh@compassphs.com to
find the highest-rated quality physicians in your area or visit the
MyHealth Clinics or MobileDoc.
2. Schedule a “preventive” annual physical exam. Tell the
staff you want an annual “preventive” exam – including blood
work – and that it’s covered at 100% by your insurance plan.
3. Fast nine hours prior. Since your lab work requires fasting,
consider a morning appointment for your blood work.
4. Write it down. Document your important health information,
medication list, family health history and questions to make the
most of your time with your physician..
5. Print your form. Make sure you print your Physical Screening
form from HR Services under the MyHR tab on Connect and
take it with you for your doctor to complete. Fax the completed
form to 972-865-8164 or email it to form@compassphs.com.
At Your Appointment
1. Remind your physician that you scheduled a “preventive”
annual physical exam – including blood work – and it’s covered
at 100% by your plan.
2. Consider asking these questions to ensure you’re getting
the best care:
• “Given my age, am I overdue for any screenings or tests?”
• “How are my numbers: blood pressure, cholesterol, blood
sugar and waist circumference?”
• “Are my current medications still necessary and dosed
correctly? Will you prescribe generic medications instead of
more expensive brand name drugs?”
• “Is there anything in my family history I should be worried about?”
• “If I change one lifestyle habit, what should it be?”
• “Am I overdue for any shots?”
• “Are you referring me to the specialists with the best
outcomes?“
Be aware that annual physicals can become diagnostic if you
are treated for any conditions. Diagnostic appointments are not
covered at 100%.
3. Be honest with your physician about your diet, exercise and
any tobacco or alcohol use.
4. Listen to the answers your physician gives to your questions,
and consider writing them down so you don’t forget.
