In Defense of the Gospel

Jesus appointed the Apostle Paul for the defense and the
confirmation of the gospel to us (Phil 1:7). One of the ways Paul did

this was to show us that the New Covenant gospel had abolished

the Old Covenant law as the means by which we were to live life.

This didn’t mean the law was abolished and never to be ever
considered again. Paul tells us: “The law is GOOD… if it is used

lawfully… but the law is not made for a righteous man” (I Tim 1:8-9).

Since the cross of Jesus, the law is not meant for us to live by it.

The law is still in existence today, and we should know what it

says, and what the Jews had to live by in the Old Testament. It is a

good measure of how much BETTER our New Testament is
compared to the Old, as the book of Hebrews tells us.

The law is the ministry of condemnation and death

                                                      (II Cor 3:6, 9).

The gospel is the ministry of God’s gift of righteousness,
                                             and reconciliation with him

                                                  II Cor 3:9, 5:18-21).

No thinking person wants to live in the influence of the

ministry of condemnation, guilt and death. Any thinking person would

want to live in the ministry of God’s gift of righteousness and

                                                              4
