study of churches. So, ’Children live what they learn.’ If we hear law
preached, we have a much greater tendency to live by it. This is
true, even though Paul says that those who preach the law, “Do not
even understand what they are saying, or the matters about which
they make confident assertions” (I Tim 1:7).
He says “They want to zealously attract us to them (because
they know we are legal minded), but it’s not for our good. They
want to exclude us (preaching the ministry of condemnation and
guilt), so we’ll become more zealous for them and seek after
them” (Gal 4:17 paraphrased).
++ Preachers like to preach the law because there are so
many more of them, whom Paul calls ’INSTRUCTORS IN CHRIST’
than there are those of us who try to be ‘FATHERS OF THE GOS-
PEL.’ I guess they feel there is safety in numbers so they flock to-
gether. Paul says there are about 10,000 Instructors to very few Fa-
thers (I Cor 4:15).
++ Preachers like to preach the law because it is so much
easier to preach than the gospel of the finished work of Jesus is.
The gospel requires revelation from God, and some deep medica-
tion to really understand it and share it. The law is just laid out for
them to adopt and preach.
You might consider them ‘Do’s and Don’ts.’
A preacher’s message might be:
“DO attend church, read your Bible, pray, have quiet time,
