P. 12
Paul has many profound things to say about Jesus. But he also
had revelation of something we often miss: “Jesus was a minister of
the CIRCUMCISIONS (which means the law), but for the truth of
God” (Romans 15:8).
Jesus said He didn’t come to destroy the law, but rather to
fulfill the law (Matthew 5:17). He fulfilled it in a big way. Paul said
that the no one was righteous under the law, and that all fall short
of the glory of God (Romans 3:10, 23).
He says that if we live by the law, we have to live perfectly by
all of the law — committing no error whatsoever — or Christ is
of no benefit to us, and profits us nothing (Galatians 5:2-4). He
further says that if we don’t live perfectly by the law, we are under
a curse (Galatians 3:10).
Practically, what he is saying, is that if we live by the law, and
don’t live it perfectly, God sees as breaking every commandment in
the book! God sees us as being a murderer, adulterer, homosexual,
and everything else — unless we keep all of the law perfectly.
Of course no one does keep the law perfectly.
No one keeps the law perfectly, especially after they hear
some of the words of Jesus:
“If your hand does anything offensive, cut it off!”
“If your eye offends, pluck it out!”
