P. 13
“If you look at a woman with lust you’re committing adultery.”
“Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
Jesus didn’t come to make things EASIER!
He came to make things harder,
to prove to us that we simply cannot do it.
We don’t respond to this and say, “Oh, praise the Lord! Glory
to God!” No! We hear these things and feel like hiding from God
like Adam did! So Paul calls Jesus a “minister of the circumcision.”
It’s like Jesus came to COMPOUND the problem, — before
he then FIXED the problem.
There is a part of all of us that might be called, “selective
legalists.” We pick and choose over the law of God like it we were
in a buffet line in a restaurant — taking what we like, and leaving
what we don’t like.
But Jesus says we can’t do this. He says to live by “every word
that proceeds from the mouth of God.” This means every gospel
word he preached — not every word from Genesis to Revelation.
Tilt! I just fouled out of the game. How about you?
Jesus preached the law (“the circumcision”)
like it had never been preached before.
