The ORIGINAL New Testament only contained
the historical account of the life of Jesus,
and then the writings of the Apostle Paul
about the GOSPEL!
Other than this, all they had to go on
was the Old Testament scriptures.
Now, don’t get me wrong. It’s wonderful that we have books
like Acts, Luke, and the letters of Peter. It’s wonderful that we have
John’s writings in both his history of Jesus, and his letters. And
where would we be without Revelation?
But it’s interesting to see how FOCUSED
the first century church was on
the writings of Paul about the GOSPEL!
It’s something we’ve lost today, and thus
we don’t ‘rightly divide the word of truth.’
Don’t consult Paul on the history of the life and teachings of
Jesus. Don’t consult Paul on events as John writes about them in
Revelation. Paul doesn’t have insight and revelation here.
But, except for Jesus himself who brought us the message of
the gospel, do consult Paul exclusively with regard to the Gospel.
We saw that the gospel was a specific revelation imparted to
Paul by God Himself. It wasn’t imparted to John in the writing of
Revelation. It wasn’t imparted to Peter to write his letters. It
