If you take the gospel out of Christianity,
you no longer have Christianity.
You only have a religion, like all other religions.
I believe the Apostle Paul wrote Hebrews, or else directly
supervised its writing. Hebrews 4:2 says, “For unto us was the
GOSPEL preached, as well as unto them; but the word preached did
not PROFIT them, not being mixed with faith in them who heard it.”
We must BELIEVE the gospel for it to have power in our lives.
As Romans 5:17 says: “They who RECEIVE abundance of grace and
the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.”
The biggest difference between the Old and New Covenants is
that the Old DEMANDS from us, while the New GIVES to us.
The gospel is not about us. It’s about Christ and His finished
work and the power of the cross in our lives. It is almost like a
religious conspiracy today to keep our focus OFF the cross of
Christ. Our focus is directed to ourselves… end times… the
rapture… to anything EXCEPT the cross. Very frequently, a new
theory about end times is created to keep us focused on the future.
I see this as keeping our focus off the finished work of the cross.
When we don’t live the gospel, our only other choice is to live
the law of God which makes us feel guilty and condemned. And then
the ante goes up. The longer you’re a Christian, the more that is
