expected from you. The treadmill keeps getting harder and harder.
The religious ladder keeps getting higher and higher.
These are true statements. We should do good and refrain
from doing bad. We should attend church, read our Bible, and give
money. We shouldn’t lie, steal, commit adultery, or kick the cat. But
this isn’t the TRUTH of the gospel!
Too often, TRUE things from the Old Covenant law are given
precedent over the TRUTH of the New Covenant gospel. Yet, the
law was abolished and replaced by the gospel, as far as us being
required to live by it is concerned. Selah!
The Law and Sin
If you talk to Christians about the Old Covenant law having
been abolished and replaced by the New Covenant gospel, they
most often look at you like you’re on drugs. At the very least they
most look at you like you’ve got a few screws loose, or need
prayer for deliverance.
Why do you think this is? It’s because the Old Covenant law
is mostly what they hear preached in church — all the things they
should and shouldn’t do. Naturally they believe it’s still in full force
and effect today. After all, it’s what they mostly hear, and it’s true:
