3. The Interaction Between the Teaching Methods and the
Students’ Self- Esteem
The aims of cooperative learning will lead
students to be active, either in discussing, questioning,
seeking answer, explaining and also listening to the material
described by a friend in their group. This strategy is organized
and highly structured; by its structure it will avoid the
problem of letting the smart students in the group do the work
while the other students get a free ride.
The literature also shows that students who work together
will develop social skills and have an understanding
of multiculturalism and group organizational development.
They learn to solve the problem, negotiate, and be kind to each
other not only by imitating but by taking an active part in their
learning.
The inter-group relationships, the acceptance of diversity and
the appreciation for peer contributions build self- esteem and
the commitment to the common good. In addition, frequent
opportunities to engage in peer and self-evaluation give students
