When I reach my Goal, my life will be better because... (Example: “By making
more social contacts, I will nd -some interesting people to talk to and do
things with.” “By going for more job interviews, I will nally get a job and
have much more money to spend.”).
Achieving your goal makes your doing the dif cult task at hand worth it.
Concentrate on the result you want rather than on your frustration in
achieving it and you will have higher frustration tolerance and accomplish a
good deal!
Review
Take a moment to review all the work you have done toward making your
life better.
1.You identi ed a Goal to focus on and problems you were having in
achieving it.
2.You identi ed the Activating Event that interfered with achieving your
Goal and how you felt and acted in the face of this Adversity.
3.You identi ed how you would like to feel and act differently, and how you
probably will bene t by Disputing and replacing your irrational Beliefs about
yourself, about others, and about the world.
4.You explored your-self-talk, your Beliefs about the Activating Event, and
discovered how rational Beliefs (rBs) led to appropriate Consequences (self-
helping feelings and behaviors) and how irrational Beliefs (IBs) led to
inappropriate Consequences (self-defeating feelings and behaviors).
5.You learned how to practice accepting yourself and others and how to
replace damning labels with realistic statements about behaviors you like
and don’t like.
